Hello! This is Derek and Summer and this blog is about the renovation of our 1898 urban farmhouse. It’s nestled in a traditional tree lined suburban city street just outside of Chicago. We grew to love this city with its older houses and charming downtown full of restaurants, festivals, and ice cream shops (at least 4 or 5 in the downtown area alone).

When we found this house, we snatched it up the first day it came on the market! The location was perfect! Cute corner lot and only a short walk to the downtown shops and restaurants! We saw the potential and knew that with a little…okay a LOT of work; it could be our dream home. It hasn’t been updated in years and is in need of major work. Thankfully, the many years helping my parents renovate their Victorian home has come in handy. Derek on the other hand, didn’t know what he was getting into. Surprise!! Anyway… follow us on this blog as we journey down the 10 year +/- renovation of our urban farmhouse.
